I have added the Google toolbar to RefDesk1 (the one on the left). To see it/use it when using Internet Explorer, go to the menu bar item View and select Google from the Toolbar category.

I have updated the Proquest Nursing titles in the electronic journal list. Please let me know if you still experience problems with getting a different journal than expected when following a link into Proquest Nursing.

If you have any suggestions on improving the interface to RACER, please let me know by Tuesday morning. Pat's going to bring our comments with her to the next RACER meeting...
Just to let you know, there has been some weirdness with our links to the full-text titles in Proquest Nursing and we're investigating...

I've had this question a couple of times and maybe you have too... students asking about the book they need for getting their driver's license....
What throws me off (every time) is that the book in question is titled The Official Driver's Handbook. We have the 1995 ed and a more recent edition is on order.
One can purchase their own copy for $12.95 although it appears that there is a free version online.
And remember: Driving is a privilege—not a right.

Here's something fun:
Government documents and the librarians who love them
Is Leddy up to doing something similar?

We have a strange problem with our Proquest titles (ABI, Proquest Nursing, CBCA). Occasionally, a computer trying to access Proquest will not be let in and instead, get a message reading: "ProQuest is unable to authenticate your user account. Please contact your local administrator. Account name=BRT4GGCP38...."

Regarding the Globe and Mail ....
Art spoke with a VP of something or other at ProQuest, and said VP assured him that the Globe and Mail will be back in the CBCA by 2004. Stay tuned. I remain,
yours

Ok - here's a little reference desk story. I was helping an undergraduate student use WilsonWeb. He returned to the desk asking if there was any any any way he could get a 1999 article from Essence Magazine. I told him that we didn't have it, that Windsor Public didn't have it, that we had an ILL service but it was sloooow...
He then asked if I could help him find it on the web as he was willing to pay a vendor for the article. I dug deep into my brain and remembered FindArticles.com.
The article was there. For free.
Why? I do not know. How can a business survive by giving away articles? I have no idea. What gives? This article tries to explain.

Re: The Globe and Mail
I spoke with a salesrep from Factiva, and according to him, educational institutional licenses for The Globe and Mail are still handled by Proquest. Factiva can provide access for an individual researcher or small group of researchers. I'll bring the details to the next reference meeting...

There are other reference desk blogs out there and I think that there is none finer than RefGrunt.
It captures the "reference desk experience" beautifully!
