Open Access Journal Sources

Oxford Journals Open Access
OUP says: 'We have a central remit to maximize dissemination of research information, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity .... The exploration of new and emerging publishing models such as Open Access sits comfortably with this goal. It also affords us the opportunity to share our findings and experiences with the community at large, thus benefiting scholarly communication in the widest sense.'
(Hard to imagine anyone else using 'whilst').

Citation Tracking and Impact Factors
To find article citation information, do a Cited Reference Search in Web of Knowledge.

Impact factors (IF) are part of a ranking system for journals, rating from 0 to usually 30. It is not only based on citation, but prestige and quality of articles published, and overall performance. e.g. Nature and Science have top IF and Tier 1 journals are those with the highest ranking.

We can find this in Journal Citation Reports:
'This CD-ROM is available for use in the library on Computer M1028. JCR presents quantifiable statistical data that provides a systematic, objective way to determine the relative importance of journals within their subject categories.'

2002 and 2004 editions: the Science Edition covers about 5,700 leading international science journals from the ISI database; the Social Sciences Edition covers about 1,700 leading international social sciences journals from the ISI database. (We get a new edition every other year).

M1028 is located outside the Interlibrary Loans Office on the first floor of the Leddy Library’s Main Building.
